An internship is a period that a student or recent graduate spends in a company, organisation, or another university in a country eligible for the Erasmus+ programme. The aim of the internship is to help individuals adapt to the requirements of the labour market, gain professional and practical skills, and better understand the economic and social conditions of the host country - while at the same time acquiring valuable work experience and improving language skills.
Types of Student Mobility:
- Long-term student internship mobility, including recent graduates (SMP), carried out within a study programme – lasting 2 to 12 months of physical mobility
- Short-term student internship mobility (SMP) – lasting 5 to 30 days of physical mobility with a mandatory virtual component
- Short-term doctoral internship mobility – lasting 5 to 30 days of physical mobility without the obligation of a virtual component
When can the internship take place?
During either semester or the summer holidays, as well as after completing a level of study (Bachelor’s, Master’s), including graduate internships.
Where can the internship take place?
In companies, training centres, research institutions, and other organisations, including higher education institutions engaged in economic activities in either the public or private sector, regardless of their size, legal status, or field of activity - including the social economy.
Students can find the host institution independently or in cooperation with their faculty.

Selection Procedure for Outgoing Erasmus Students
1. Application for the Selection Process
The selection procedure for student mobility for the next academic year takes place at the faculty level, usually at the end of October of the previous academic year. Each faculty is required to publish on its website, no later than 3 weeks before the selection process, the criteria for selecting students for the Erasmus+ programme for the given academic year.
The application process for Erasmus+ mobility for internships, either during studies or as a graduate internship, takes place in three cycles:
- For the summer semester of the current academic year — starting from the penultimate week of October (e.g. 20 October 2025)
- For the winter or summer semester of the following academic year — starting from the penultimate week of February (e.g. 16 February 2026)
- For the winter or summer semester of the following academic year — starting from the penultimate week of May (e.g. 18 May 2026)
Applications are submitted electronically through the online application form (see link below).
Students who apply for Erasmus+ mobility will be included in the selection process organised by their faculty. Each faculty will inform students about the exact dates and methods of the selection procedure according to its internal rules.
2. Selection Interview
Every participant in the Erasmus mobility programme must go through a transparent selection process. The selection interviews for students are organised by individual faculties, which also define their own selection criteria.
The interview schedule follows the application cycles listed above:
- For the summer semester of the current academic year, interviews take place during the second week of November (e.g. 10–14 November 2025).
- For the winter or summer semester of the following academic year, interviews take place during the second week of March (e.g. 9–13 March 2026).
- For the winter or summer semester of the following academic year, interviews take place during the second week of June (e.g. 8–12 June 2026).
3. After the Selection Interview
Each faculty is required to inform students of the results of the selection process.
The list of selected students and alternates, together with the selection record and evaluation of individual criteria, must be submitted by the faculties to the Department for International Relations and Mobility (IRO) at the Rector’s Office within one week after the end of the selection process.
4. Online Meeting with Practical Information
Afterwards, successful candidates are contacted by email by the Department for International Relations and Mobility (IRO). The responsible officer for outgoing mobility is Ing. Eva Matejovičová Filipová (Phone: 033/5939 207, 0918 518 680, eva.filipova@truni.sk).
Each February, the IRO organises an online information meeting for all successful applicants of the selection process. During this session, students are informed about next steps and provided with a list of required documents.
Before mobility
Before starting the internship, the student must submit an Acceptance Letter (see section Truni International › Important Documents › Acceptance_letter_internship–universal) confirmed by the host organisation and have a properly completed and signed Learning Agreement (see section Truni International › Important Documents › Erasmus+ Learning Agreement for students on internships).
After receiving the confirmed Acceptance Letter and Learning Agreement from the host organisation, the student must arrange the following independently:
- Travel tickets – Under the new Erasmus+ programme period, students are encouraged to use eco-friendly (“green”) modes of transport through financial incentives for sustainable travel. The amount of financial support depends on the distance between the sending institution (Trnava) and the host institution. When using green travel, students can also receive support for up to 4 additional travel days.
- Accommodation – Students are responsible for arranging their own housing, unless otherwise provided by the host institution.
Participants with fewer opportunities are entitled to an additional financial contribution on top of the standard grant rate as follows:
- Long-term mobility: €250 per month throughout the mobility period
- Short-term mobility: one-time contribution of €100 for mobilities lasting 5–14 days, or €150 for mobilities lasting 15–30 days
More details on the eligibility conditions for participants with fewer opportunities can be found HERE.
Mobility implementation
If any changes occur in the original Internship Agreement, they must be approved by all three parties in written form as an addendum.
An extension of the internship is possible upon agreement between the host and sending organisation. The student must send the Request for Internship Extension to the Department for International Relations and Mobility (IRO), specifically to 📧 eva.filipova@truni.sk. The request must be submitted no later than one month before the original end date of the internship.
Important Notice: The total duration of mobility at one level of study must not exceed 12 months.
In case of an early termination of the internship, the student must submit a Request for Shortening the Mobility to the IRO.
If the student fails to meet the minimum required duration of the internship (2 months / 60 days), they are obliged to return the full allocated grant, unless the early termination was caused by unexpected or unforeseeable circumstances.
After the mobility
After completing their mobility, the student must submit the following documents to the Office for International Relations and Mobility (IRO) no later than 30 days after the end of the stay:
- Certificate of Length of Stay – confirming the exact duration of the study stay (i.e., the first and last day at the host institution), signed by the coordinator at the host university. (See Truni International → Important Documents → certificate-of-departure–study).
- Confirmed Transcript of Records – part of the Learning Agreement (Part 3), issued by the host university. Please contact the International Office of your host institution to obtain it.
- Protocol on Recognition of Studies by the Faculty – recognition of study results at the home institution, issued by your faculty’s study department.
- Completion and submission of the Student Report to the EU-wide database (so-called Mobility Tool / EU Survey). Instructions for completing the report will be sent automatically by email from the database on the date when, according to the financial agreement, your mobility officially ends. Participants who fail to submit the report online or do not provide the required documents listed above may be asked by the institution to partially or fully return their financial support.
- Photos from your internship or study stay, a short article or a video presentation — we would be happy to share your experience on our social media channels.
Recommendation: Students are encouraged to obtain a Europass, in which their successful study or traineeship abroad will be officially recorded.
