Cinemas and Theatre
Movie and theatre lovers can satisfy their cultural appetite by visiting one of several cinemas or the city theatre.
Most films, except those intended for children, are screened in their original language with Slovak or Czech subtitles. When choosing a movie, check if it’s available in English and whether it includes subtitles - this is indicated by the symbols shown in cinema listings.
Otherwise, the film is dubbed into Slovak or Czech language.
Kino Hviezda
The only traditional cinema in Trnava, offering an alternative to the multiplex experience. Throughout the year, it screens a mix of current Hollywood releases, independent films, and festival favourites, and also hosts discussions and stand-up performances.
Trnava Amphitheatre
A summer favourite among locals, this open-air cinema operates during the warmer months.
Under the night sky, visitors can enjoy movie screenings as well as live concerts by local bands.
The Amphitheatre’s film programme is managed by Kino Hviezda. In the cinema schedule, look for the symbol “Amfik” (see below), which indicates that the screening will take place outdoors at the amphitheatre.
